OK. So. Haven’t been able to update in a while, and a lot of things have happened. Most of the past weekend has been taken up by incredible adventures punctuated by a lot of sleeping on buses, and an occasional alcoholic beverage in the evenings. I will try and fill you guys in as best I can for the days leading up to the weekend.
Thursday:
Possibly one of the most boring lectures of my entire life. I thought about capitalizing boring, but then I would be labeling that time period with a level of intensity that isn’t appropriate. The lecture was on Australian geomorphology, and the lady couldn’t have been less interested in the topic that she most likely had been studying for the past 10 years. She made a power point of easy to understand slides: maps, facts, figures, then proceeded to read them to us, as if we couldn’t see and understand them within seconds of viewing. Any questions we asked she didn’t really feel inspired to answer. We were all a little hung over from Anna’s 21st birthday party the previous night, and it made the hour and twenty minutes some of the longest of my entire life. After class I went downtown to set up a haircut for next Wednesday. We’ll see what I get…but it will be short. I also got to experience my first Sydney thunderstorm. Pretty incredible.
Friday:
The lecturer couldn’t have been more different from the previous day. She was an enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgeable biologist that works on the teeth and eating patterns of different Australian mammals. She gave us a huge but enthralling lecture on the basic eating habits of a number of different Australian species, and we learned a lot more about the animals as well. We then took a ferry over to the Taronga Zoo. It was amazing. But it cost 28 dollars per student. Not quite that awesome. But the animals were amazing. Mom would have loved the reptile house.
